Northfield wedding photographer

Here in Minnesota, we don’t let a little thing like a winter of frigid temperatures slow us down. This arctic wedding was just before New Years in Cannon Falls and Northfield, MN.

This was a really fun wedding, even when we had to huddle together for warmth by the river!

Brittany and Erik – Maple Grove wedding photographer

Brittany and Erik were married at the Elm Creek Chalet in Maple Grove. Unfortunately it was a very cold and blustery day so the ceremony was moved inside. We did brave the elements for a few pictures but the wind was definitely a big factor! The fall accents were really beautiful and we had a really wonderful time together. Thank you for having me be a part of your day!

Jennifer and Nathan – Chaska wedding photographer

Jennifer and Nathan had their family ceremony on Memorial day weekend. Nathan is a service member and they had been married before he left for his last tour. Now that he was back state side again, they wanted to have a nice wedding to celebrate with their friends and family. They both come from military families so having their wedding on Memorial Day weekend was a nice way to honor the veterans in their families.

They were married at City Square Park in Chaska on what ended up being one of the hottest days of the year. They were a really fun group and we all had a lot of fun together even though we had to make some changes to the schedule because of the heat! Their officiant was so much fun too. He was having a great time which meant so did everyone else!

The reception was at the Grand Palms Wedding and Event Center in Chaska. It was just down the street so we all walked on over. The speaches were so touching and moving and everyone was just so sweet. They had a Norwegian wedding cake called a Kransekake. It was so beautiful and a really fun counterpoint to the array of cupcakes.

Once the party started everyone really let loose! It was so much fun and everyone was dancing. It was really wonderful celebration and I am glad I was able to be a part of it. Congratulations Jennifer and Nathan!

Marissa and Wesley – Farmington wedding photographer

Marissa and Wesley were married at St. Micheal’s Catholic church in Farmington, Minnesota. Marissa was the fourth woman in her family to wear her wedding dress! It was a beautiful family heirloom and it was so amazing to see all the women who wore it together at her wedding. We made stops at the Dakota county fairgrounds at St. Olaf College for pictures before making it to the Vintage Ballroom and Suites for the reception. It was a long, full day and I was thrilled to be a part of it.Marissa and Wesley Marissa and Wesley Marissa and Wesley Marissa and Wesley Marissa and Wesley Marissa and Wesley Marissa and Wesley Marissa and Wesley Marissa and Wesley Marissa and Wesley Marissa and Wesley Marissa and Wesley Marissa and Wesley Marissa and Wesley Marissa and Wesley Marissa and Wesley Marissa and Wesley Marissa and Wesley Marissa and Wesley Marissa and Wesley Marissa and Wesley Marissa and Wesley Marissa and Wesley Marissa and Wesley Marissa and Wesley Marissa and Wesley Marissa and Wesley Marissa and Wesley Marissa and Wesley Marissa and Wesley Marissa and Wesley Marissa and Wesley Marissa and Wesley Marissa and Wesley Marissa and Wesley Marissa and Wesley Marissa and Wesley Marissa and Wesley Marissa and Wesley Marissa and Wesley Marissa and Wesley Marissa and Wesley Marissa and Wesley Marissa and Wesley Marissa and Wesley Marissa and Wesley 20120512MW_0144-800 Marissa and Wesley Marissa and Wesley Marissa and Wesley Marissa and Wesley Marissa and Wesley Marissa and Wesley Marissa and Wesley Marissa and Wesley Marissa and Wesley Marissa and Wesley Marissa and Wesley

Katherine and Matt – Minneapolis wedding photographer

Katherine and Matt’s wedding was really quite unique and not just because it was the ever elusive Thursday wedding. They had a very small and intimate wedding at the Theo Wirth Fireplace Room in beautiful Theodore Wirth park, Minneapolis.

The guest list was almost exclusively family so there were just over twenty people in attendance. The bride made dozens and dozens of paper flowers and decorative wax bowls for the ceremony along with a large wooden tea lite tree for above the mantle. The decorations were just amazing! (Only one caught fire right before they were about to walk down the isle. A fast thinking guest tossed it into the fireplace though and no one was the wiser until after the ceremony!)

They each wrote their own vows. Katherine’s were very sweet and thoughtful. Matt’s were probably the most entertaining vows I’ve ever heard. He referenced barbeque ribs (several times), zombie apocalypse survival, time travel and a myriad of other things. It was really hard to not giggle!

Their reception was held at Ambiente Gallerie in the gallery space. There was a really great photography display on that I quite enjoyed. The table decorations were beautiful. Like almost everything else, they were made by the bride! She painted a bunch of thrift store vases and filled them with flowers for the table.

It turns out, all that talk about barbaque was in part because Matt had made his signature dry rub and sauces as wedding favors! There were a few different kinds and it looked amazing.

They also had a sushi chef from Fuji Ya making fresh sushi rolls. It was amazing! They even had a custom roll created for them for the event.

Everyone was really sweet and so much fun to work with. I could not have been happier to be a part of this wedding. Congratulations team Matt and Kat!

On a personal note, this was also my last wedding with my favorite assistant. He is now in Korea teaching English. I will have to struggle on without him! Thanks for all your great work! And for driving the golf cart while I closed my eyes….

Jessica and Chris – Como Conservatory wedding photography

The Majorie McNeely Conservatory is one of the most popular and beautiful locations in the twin cities. This wedding was set in the glorious Sunken Garden and brought together two wonderful families. It was a beautiful and emotional wedding but everyone was a bit nervous about their big day! A small event, their family and friends were all very sweet and tight knit.

They had a lot of really fun and uniquely geeky wedding details too. Check out the Star Wars theme and the dalek cake toppers! It’s always a bit of a thrill for me to have a conversation with the couple about something like IRC channels at their wedding reception.

Congratulations Jessica and Chris! It was lovely meeting you and your children.

Kirsten and Jake – St. Paul wedding photographer

This wedding had so many great moments. The groom was just so adorably awkward and they were so very in love. It made the whole experience fantastic. I absolutely loved their classic car and they were up for anything! Throw in a few fantastic locations like Como park and we had a wonderful time.

Their ceremony was at Gustavus Adolphus Lutheran Church in St. Paul. We all went to Como park for their first look and some fun portraits. The Kirsten and her bridesmaid are the best of friends and they were so crazy cute together! After that, we went to Bandana Square the the Twin Cities Model Railroad Museum. They has so much fun stuff there for us to work with it was great!

Then it was back to the church for a beautiful ceremony with wonderful music provided by some of the bridal party! I love it when everyone gets involved, it’s always so beautiful and meaningful. After the ceremony it was off to the reception at The Earle Brown Heritage Center. If you’ve never been, it’s worth a stop. They’ve got quite the set up!

Kirsten and Jake had boxes of fresh flowers and strawberries on the tables and everyone brought pies to share! There was a photo booth set up and great signs along with books for people to write on. There were so many really fun details and it was all really well done. I can’t believe they made such a big direction sign for the different aspects of the reception!

Anyway, I had a hard time narrowing down pictures from this one, I hope you enjoy it!

Carol and Matt – Chicago wedding photography

I have been lucky to know Carol and Matt for many years. I’ve done portraits for Carol and she’s modeled for me several times. I was so happy for her when she got engaged! They had a long engagement and I did their engagement pictures a couple years ago.

I had to do a bit of traveling from the twin cities to the Chicago area for this wedding, but I was happy to do so for them! I was lucky enough to travel with some friends which made the journey much more pleasant. Thanks for having me! I also have to thank the bride’s family for their accommodations. I sincerely appreciate it all.

It was a bit of a whirlwind for me! I wasn’t familiar with the venues but everyone was so very helpful. I was with them the whole day and we had just a fantastic time. The reception was a fabulously great time. Everyone was dancing and there was some great salsa music!

There was a very sweet moment during the reception where Matt played a song for Carol. Everyone waved lighters and glowing cell phone screens for them. Awww! Some other highlights include: a “waiting for the bride” dance by the groom, a delightfully eccentric and nerdy officiant, a star fleet pin, home made chocolate puzzle pieces and lots of dancing!

Thank you for having me!

Lee and Andrew – Minneapolis Wedding Photographer

Lee and Andrew were so much fun at their engagement session I knew their wedding would be a great time. We met up at The Gale Mansion where they were getting ready and would later have their reception.

They met through their love of movies. Andrew and I planned on recreating several famous images from movies with his groomsmen! It was so much crazy fun. I’ve recreated images before so it was a familiar process for me. I included a few below. One from a movie and one from a comic. Feel free to guess which ones they’re from as I can’t exactly link to them hehe.

Lee was absolutely beautiful in her dress and sewed a small blue button into it that her mother and grandmother had worn. She and her sister were so very sweet together it made my day.

Their ceremony was held at St. Joan of Arc church in Minneapolis. They had both the church’s priest and the one from Lee’s childhood church perform the ceremony. It was a very special touch.

By the time we were back at the Gale it was definitely time to party! Everyone was dancing and had a great time.

The part you won’t see is that during this joyful celebration, Lee’s mother was unable to attend because she was very ill. There were times during the day when we would stop and send her pictures or someone would call. I think it’s an important story about how to struggle and live your life, incorporating the good and the sad.

Congratulations to Lee and Andrew, I hope your lives together continue to be beautiful and joyful.

Michelle and Joe – Minneapolis wedding photographer

I had the pleasure of photographing Michelle and Joe’s Minneapolis wedding on Cinco de Mayo this spring.

They were honestly, some of the most amazingly fun people I have worked with. Michelle’s bridesmaids were simply a delight and caused so much wonderful trouble, my second shooter had trouble keeping up with them! One of them told me a story that she called Michelle and asked if it was ok that the dress she had picked out for the wedding was “basically a tutu.” Michelle said that was totally fine. How awesome is THAT? I told them it was not only a great question to be asked but obviously the best answer possible.

Michelle and Joe were married at Five, the historical Fifth police precinct of Minneapolis. It’s such a great and unique venue, I love working there. It was raining when we first arrived but it cleared up right before the ceremony and we were able to go outside for fun and pictures. The ever adventurous bridesmaids even had a little fun with the police officer on hand to help at the event. Wow!

There was so much joy and love at this wedding it was really a privilege to be able to attend. From the obvious thrill as they saw each other walking down the isle, to the gentle teasing during their vows, it was a delight. Michelle and Joe were wonderful at their first dance and the band they hired was a lot of fun. They clearly took some lessons for their dance and it really paid off. It was followed up by Michelle’s dance with her father and he was quite smooth on the dance floor!

Really, it was a perfect evening! Congratulations Michelle and Joe!
